I help people transform their health and life through integrative wellness practices

Before developing my personal self-care and wellness practice, I was exhausted, burnt out, and stressed. This seemed unlikely for a yoga teacher, strength coach, and massage therapist and I felt some shame about it. Like many in the caregiving profession, I overscheduled myself and often put the needs of others in front of my own. This led me to feel drained, to be in constant pain from overworking, to have porous boundaries by taking on what wasn’t mine, and having a hard time saying no because I was a people pleaser. I was extra hard on myself for missing yoga practices and workouts. My relationship suffered and I lacked self-compassion when I truly needed it the most.

When I chose to treat myself how I treat my clients, students, and friends, I truly began to see change. This resulted in a full exploration of what is really important to me in all areas of my life and my being. This meant showing up for myself in a way I never had before by prioritizing my wellness and creating sustainable practices that were rejuvenating, compassionate, and mindful. I also reached out for support so that I would be accountable for the changes I wanted to make. As well as a deep dive into mindfulness, self-compassion, and gratitude practices, I became more efficient in my work. I created realistic goals for myself for exercise, movement and nutrition. I constantly practiced the art of saying no without fear of letting others down or not being liked. Most importantly, it resulted in me having my own back and being a friend to myself so that when I needed to pause, to find my way back to the path I am aligned with, and to re-integrate with my whole self, I did it with kindness and compassion. This journey led to me creating more opportunities to share my offerings with others in a balanced way and an accessible, personalized, and realistic wellness program including yoga, exercise, mindfulness, practices, and nutrition with a foundation of self-compassion. I found myself more resilient to stress and more grounded in myself than ever before. I always remind myself that I am not perfect. I am human and this practice is always a work in progress, but I have a touchstone I always come back to and this has helped me become more resourceful when times are tough.

Embodied Yoga + Wellness Incorporates Just That - YOUR WHOLE BODY

You are an incredible multidimensional being and many factors contribute to your wellness. You don’t have to be fixed. With this holistic approach you are not viewed as a segmented human with problems that only affect one area and someone else needs to solve for you. You are seen as your whole self and cared for in that way as well as supported in becoming the resourceful, accountable and whole human that you already are.

Yoga is for EVERY BODY

Don’t let the millions of photos of people doing yoga poses on social media fool you. Whatever the shape, size, or ability of your body, you have a seat on the mat and you are most welcome there. An experienced yoga teacher/therapist, such as myself, adapts yoga to your individual needs and encourages your progression to more mobility and strength in a safe, accepting, and kind way. Yoga is not about being flexible or contorting your body into different shapes. Yoga is about being embodied and re-integrating with your whole self. Unlike what many believe to be true, Yoga isn’t all about your body. Yoga is about you as a whole being.

Focusing On Your Wellness Brings Alignment

When you take the time to explore and define what is truly important to you and why you want to focus on your wellness, everything changes. Your decisions then become aligned with your intentions. When you develop a greater understanding of the patterns that hold you back, they become more visible and you realize that you have the capacity to choose to be accountable to yourself. You develop self-trust. And we get to be accountable together! I have your back! You have an ally to cheer you on when you feel like giving up and remind you of your intentions to help you stay on track. With practice, you will be your own voice of accountability and you will want to follow through with your commitments to yourself strengthening your confidence and your relationship with you!

Foundations For A Calm + Present Mind

Mindfulness practices are designed to help focus and calm the mind. However, if you are coming to your mediation practice with high levels of stress and anxiety, it is often challenging to just sit and usually results in a lot of thinking, worrying, and rumination. This often ends with feelings of “being bad at meditation,” or feelings of failure.

My experience as a yoga therapist has always informed my mindfulness facilitation. In yoga therapy we use practices that down-regulate your nervous system into a relaxation response by using the breath, movement, sound, mantra, reflection, and visualization to prepare you for your mediation practice. As Dr Shauna Shapiro says, “What you practice grows stronger.” This means that the more regularly you practice mediation with attainable goals, your brain is rewiring and creating new neural pathways for meditation to become more familiar and easier with time.

“In my work with Emily I slowly began to find my way on a journey home to self - the space where profound reclamation lives, where healing and integration could allow for thoughtful and intentional reflection, growth and eventually a rebirth and rebuilding of my life. I think in times of life’s greatest transitions there are those that patiently hold the light for us, offering us a safe, beautiful and reflective process walking along side of us on our path home, gently offering wisdom when we feel stuck, overwhelmed or lost along the way. Emily’s thoughtful approach offered me this. I have often returned to the notes and writings that I created during this profound time for me as Emily’s guidance is absolutely applicable to many different situations where I’m beginning to feel challenged to find my way. Working with her was a pivotal experience that I reflect on with tremendous gratitude and appreciation.”
